Keter Shed Installation
To celebrate the launch of Keter sheds at Ornamental Plastics we decided we would install one!
We picked two staff members who between them managed to make one competent DIYer and set to work.
We are installing the Newton Plus 7ft x 7.5 which you can buy here: https://ornamentalplastics.co/store/p/keter-newton-plus-shed-7ft-x-75ft-greyblack
You can view the rest of the range here: https://ornamentalplastics.co/store/external-garden-products
The sheds are delivered flat packed and heat wrapped. The boxes had been left outside for a few days in the rain prior to this photo being taken and were almost completely bone dry.
Once unpacked and separated the boxes were very manageable. The weight of the entire package banded together is well in excess of 100kg.
We installed onto a concrete base. A wooden frame base can also be used.
Our first snag came when we realised that Keter Provides the installation instructions for the entire Newton Plus range in the box (we ended up with about 8 different sets of instructions). Once we had located the one we wanted, we began putting the shed up. We decided on going thinnest side facing forward as the Newton Plus range can be installed with the doors on either the widest side or the thinner side.
Our second snag came when we realised that there are no fixings provided to secure the base to the concrete. With the benefit of we realise that this is because different fixings would be required for different substrates. We ended up using Concrete Screws (available to purchase from Roofstore P&P Ltd).
We followed the instructions and began slotting in the panels.
The windows can be separated into two parts and you simply sandwich them into the pre-cut holes.
The roof and door installation were a little bit more tricky but we found the instructions very clear and managed to get them on without too much hassle.
Keter mention that this is a two person job and we can definitely confirm it is. We would recommend that whichever friend you bribe to help you is 6ft or taller as getting the panels and rooflight in are a challenge if you are shorter. Unfortunately our cameraman had been repurposed as a roof panel installer at this point and we did not get any pictures of the roof panels and the doors going on :(
The entire installation, subtracting breaks took about 4 hours. This time could have possibly been reduced if we had not been too stubborn to call Keter’s technical support for help in some areas (available here https://www.keter.com/en-gb/contact-us.html ). Overall we found Keter’s instructions very easy to follow and the finished shed looks great.
When we first started installing the shed we were a little concerned about how lightweight the wall panels felt but not long after we put the shed up there were some VERY strong winds, so much so we thought we might not have a shed left afterwards, however the shed was completely intact and bone dry inside.
To summarise:
Incredibly sturdy for something so lightweight
Instructions were overall easy to follow with very little snags
No fixings for the base are provided with the kits
Definitely a two person job
